German Business Confidence Defies Fears of Slowdown ... after the outgoing Italian government approved 300 million euros in emergency funding aimed at keeping the cash-strapped airline flying while a new bidder can be found. Speaking on Italian radio Berlusconi warned that any rescue bid would entail the loss of hundreds of jobs. A takeover plan by Air France-KLM fell through during the run-up to last week's elections.
