Exiled Hamas leader, Khaled Meshaal, says the Palestinian militant group is willing to accept a truce with Israel if it withdraws from Palestinian lands seized in the 1967 war.
Meshaal said Hamas would accept a Palestinian state whose borders were limited to the West Bank, Gaza strip and east Jerusalem, but that the group would never fully recognize Israel. The Hamas leader said he made the offer to former U.S. President Jimmy Carter in talks on Saturday. In a speech in Jerusalem Carter said it was a mistake to exclude Hamas from the peace process.
