Klaus trusts ODS MPs before Czech presidential elections ... today will attend the presentation of his book on climate change entitled Blue, Not Green Planet. He will meet Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende before leaving for Prague. Klaus visited the Netherlands in the 1990s in his capacity as then prime minister (in office 1993-97) and in 2000 as Chamber of Deputies chairman. Dutch Queen Beatrix paid a visit to the Czech Republic in 1994. Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek went to the Netherlands last June.
He discussed the reform of EU institutions with Balkenende. The EU member states are now to approve the Lisbon reform treaty that replaces the European constitution, which France and the Netherlands rejected in referendums. The treaty will take effect only if all EU members ratify it. Klaus's book on climate titled Blue not Green Planet, which was also published in a German translation, challenges the climate change theories. Klaus warns that the alleged fight against global warming poses a risk of limiting human freedom. Some Czech and foreign environmentalists have criticised Klaus's opinions. One of his opponents is former U.S. vice-president Albert Gore.
