Siemens Poised to Cut 7,000 Jobs ... currently rocking German engineering giant Siemens has fingered the former head of the group.
German daily the Sueddeutsche Zeitung and Der Spiegel magazine report that a Siemens executive told prosecutors that Heinrich von Pierer had ordered the witness, and a colleague, to make suspicious payments to Argentine government officials. The reports said evidence pointed to bribes of more than 6 million euro being paid to officials of Carlos Menem's government, to secure a lucrative contract for a system to produce electronic passports. Siemens is struggling with revelations that it created a slush fund to pay bribes to obtain foreign contracts.
