Czech KDU-CSL leader's welfare abuse case shelved ... that it may be even longer for an elderly person. He is 70 years old. Media speculated that Schwarzenberg's resignation for health reasons could open the path to Christian Democrat (KDU-CSL) chairman Jiri Cunek's return to government. Schwarzenberg wants Cunek to publicly clarify his financial situation. He threatened previously to resign if Cunek returns to the government without meeting this condition. Senator Cunek resigned as deputy prime minister and local development minister last November when his alleged bribery case was reopened. It was definitively halted a fortnight later, but Cunek has not yet returned to the government. Schwarzenberg said he sets no deadline by which Cunek should provide proofs of the clean origin of his family finance. Schwarzenberg said he would like the issue to be cleared up not because of himself, but because it is important for the government to maintain the public's trust.
