until her recovery, the leadership agreed. Greens deputy chairwoman Dana Kuchtova said on Friday the Greens leadership had known about Zubova's illness for a long time. But Greens leader Martin Bursik said Zubova's announcement that she would not turn up at the session had taken him by surprise in an unpleasant way. In the presidential election, in which President Vaclav Klaus defended his post, every vote was important.

The Greens supported Klaus's rival, economist Jan Svejnar. Bursik says Zubova communicated insufficiently in the key moments on Friday. He says he wants an explanation from her. Kuchtova, on the other hand, said before today's meeting she demanded that Bursik apologise to Zubova for his statements about her. Kuchtova said Bursik indicated that he did not trust Zubova. Bursik allegedly said it was odd that Marek Dalik, aide to Mirek Topolanek, leader of the senior government Civic Democrats (ODS) who supported Klaus, had known that Zubova would not attend the session sooner than Bursik. Bursik admitted that the argument was part of wider internal conflict in the Green Party. Last autumn, Kuchtova resigned as education minister. Some Greens members then criticised Bursik for not backing her. Kuchtova proposed that Zubova replace her, but Bursik opposed Zubova's nomination. After a long-lasting dispute, Greens deputy head Ondrej Liska was appointed new education minister.
