The 22-year-old was due to play world number seven Serena Williams in the singles in the mixed team final.
But instead she decided to forfeit and concentrate on the mixed doubles.
"She will be far better off preparing for the doubles, which is much less strenuous," said tournament doctor Hamish Osborne.
Jankovic was forced to retire in the second set of her singles match on Thursday but returned for the mixed doubles with Novak Djokovic as Serbia beat Argentina 2-1.
"I shouldn't be here, I am really risking my career," she admitted.
"I shouldn't be playing but I love playing for my country and I will just try the best I can."
