Captains Anil Kumble and Younus Khan agreed to end the match early with Pakistan on 214-4, 131 short of their victory target amid fading light.
With Younus (107) and Mohammad Yousuf (42) slowing the run rate but looking assured at the crease, a draw beckoned.
India lead the series 1-0 with the final Test in Bangalore on Saturday.
